abstract | NEW MATERIAL:An α-[3-(1-phenylethenyl)phenyl]propionic acid shown by formula II (R is H or 1W4C alkyl) and an alkyl ester thereof. n USE: An intermediate for synthesizing α-[3-(1-phenylethenyl)phenyl]propionic acid (trade name ketoprofen) useful as a drug such as anti-inflammatory drug and analgesic inexpensively, in high yield and readily. n PREPARATION: A 1-(3-vinylphenyl)-1-phenylethylene shown by formula III is hydroesterified according to well-known method to give a compound shown by formula II. This compound is oxidized with an oxidizing agent or with molecular oxygen in the presence of an oxidation catalyst to give the above- mentioned drugs readily. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio |
