titleOfInvention Production of 2-(4-thiazolyl)benzimidazole
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled high-purity compound useful as a mildew-proofing agent and a vermicide for animals by one-stage reaction, readily and in high yield, by reacting 4-thiazolecarboxylic acid with o-phenylenediamine as raw materials in an organic solvent under heating. n CONSTITUTION: 1mol. 4-thiozolecarboxylic acid is reacted with 0.9W2mol. o- phenylenediamine in an organic solvent optionally 0.01W0.1mol. acid such as boric acid as a catalyst at preferably ≥90°C, especially preferably 120W200°C for 3W30hr and a given amount of water is distilled away to give the aimed compound without using expensive reagent. o-Dichlorobenzene, phenyl ethyl ether, toluene, p-nitrotoluene or diglyme may be cited as the organic solvent and the amount of the organic solvent used is 3W30 times as much as that of 4-thiazolecarboxylic acid. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
