abstract PURPOSE: To make it possible to produce a polymer molding low in a residual monomer content, by simultaneously polymerizing and molding a metathesis- polymerizable monomer together with a carboxylic acid halide in the presence of a metathesis polymerization catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: A process for producing a polymer molding comprises the steps of quickly mixing a reactive metathesis-polymerizable monomer solution containing at least a catalyst component of a metathesis polymerization catalyst system (e.g., a reactive solution of a dicyclopentadiene containing tungsten hexachloride) with a reactive solution containing a metathesis-polymerizable monomer containing at least an activator component for a metathesis polymerization catalyst system (e.g., a reactive solution of dicyclopentadiene containing trioctylaluminum) and pouring the obtained mixture into a mold. Said process is performed in the presence of a carboxylic acid halide (e.g., isophthaloyl chloride), because it can function as a remarkably effective catalyst activator, so that a polymer molding low in a residual monomer content can be obtained. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
