titleOfInvention Production of bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl) sebacate
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield in slightly colored state, by using an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent in the ester interchange of 2,2,6,6- tetramethyl-4-piperidinol with a sebacic acid ester in the presence of an alcoholysis catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: The objective bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl) sebacate useful as a photo-stabilizer for polymers can be produced in high yield, suppressing the by-production of hardly removable coloring impurities, by carrying out ester interchange reaction of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinol with a sebacic acid ester of formula (R 1 and R 2 are 1W8C alkyl or phenyl) in the presence of an alcoholysis catalyst (e.g. alkali metal, its lower alcoholate or hydride) in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent (preferably a solvent having higher boiling point than that of the produced lower alcohol, e.g. hexane, heptane, cyclohexane, etc.). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
