abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled pure compound useful as an antioxidant for polyolefins, having excellent fluidity free from coloring, by subjecting pentaerythritol and a specific compound to ester interchange reaction in the presence of a basic catalyst an a specific compound. n CONSTITUTION: 3-(3,5-Ditertiary butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid alkyl ester (A for short) and pentaerythritol are subjected to ester interchange reaction in the presence of a basic catalyst (e.g. monobutyltin oxide, dibutyltin oxide, etc.) to give tetrakis-3-(3,5-ditertiary butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionyloxymethyl]methane. In the operation the reaction is carried out in the presence of 0.1W5.0wt.% based on the component A of a 3-(3-tertiary butyl-4- hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid alkyl ester. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
