titleOfInvention Production of optically active 1-methyl-3-phenyl-propylamine
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a synthetic raw material for pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, etc., with simple procedure in high yield, by reacting an optically active organic sulfonyloxy compound with ammonia. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula II can be produced by reacting a novel compound of formula I (R 1 is methyl, ethyl, phenyl, p- methylphenyl or benzyl; * is asymmetric carbon atom) with ammonia preferably in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. cuprous bromide) at 40W160°C. The amount of ammonia is ≥1.0 times mol, preferably in large excess to the compound of formula I. The reaction is carried out in an autoclave with ammonia optionally dissolved in a proper solvent such as methanol. The starting compound of formula I is obtained by reacting an organic sulfonyl compound with an optically active 1-methyl-3-phenylpropyl alcohol in the presence of a base. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
