titleOfInvention Production of molded flame-retardant thermoplastic resin article
abstract PURPOSE: To stably produce a molded article containing a homogeneously dispersed flame retardant therein, by adding a readily decomposable particulate flame retardant to a combustible thermoplastic resin, melt molding the resultant blend while heating and cooling the molded article. n CONSTITUTION: 77W99.5wt.% flame retardant is blended with 30W0.5wt.% thermoplastic resin selected from polystyrene resin or polymethyl methacrylate resin in a powdery form and the resultant blend is then compressed while being heated to prepare a sheetlike mass, which is cut or pulverized to provide a particulate flame retardant. The above-mentioned particulate flame retardant is subsequently blended with a combustible thermoplastic resin and the resultant blend is melted while being heated to homogeneously disperse the flame retardant in the resin. The blended is then molded into a desired form and cooled. A flame retardant obtained by mixing flame retardants having ≥150°C melting points at 1:0.1W1:1 ratio, e.g. a mixture of hexabromocyclododecane with tribromophenyl allyl ether, is used as the flame retardant. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
