titleOfInvention | Purification of chitosan |
abstract | PURPOSE: To easily purify large amount of chitosan useful as a flocculant for various dispersions and pharmaceuticals, etc., on an industrial scale, by adjusting a chitosan-containing liquid to a specific pH, thereby precipitating the chitosan from the liquid. n CONSTITUTION: A chitosan-containing liquid (e.g. a process liquid obtained by deacetylation treatment and having high impurity content) is adjusted to ≥6.0pH, preferably ≥6.5pH to obtain a precipitate. The precipitate is, if necessary, washed, dissolved usually in an acid (acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc., having a concentration of 0.01W3mol) and adjusted to ≥6.0pH, preferably ≥6.5pH with an alkali such as KOH to again precipitate chitosan. The purity of chitosan can be improved by repeating the above steps of precipitation, washing and dissolution. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio |
