titleOfInvention Method for storing and feeding tritium and apparatus therefor
abstract PURPOSE: To enable the safe storage of gaseous tritium and the easy supply of tritium in a pressurized gaseous state, by using a metal hydride having lower dissociation pressure at normal temperature for the storage of tritium and using a metal hydride having higher dissociation pressure for the supply of tritium. n CONSTITUTION: A tritium storage vessel 1 is filled with metallic uranium occluding tritium and a tritium supply vessel 2 is filled with LaNi 4 Al alloy. The storage vessel 1 and the supply vessel 2 are connected with each other by opening the valves 6, 7. The metallic uranium in the storage vessel 1 is heated to release tritium by electrifying a heater 3. The released tritium is transferred by the pressure difference and absorbed in the LaNi 4 Al alloy in the supply vessel 2. The heater 3 is switched off, the valve 6 is closed and a heater 4 is electrified to heat the LaNi 4 Al alloy in the supply vessel 2 to release tritium. The valve 9 is opened and compressed tritium gas is supplied to a prescribed apparatus connected to a line 10. After supplying the tritium, the supply vessel 2 is cooled to normal temperature and the valve 6 is opened to transfer the remaining tritium gas from the supply vessel 2 to the storage vessel 1. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
