abstract PURPOSE:To permit electric charge up to high potential without impairing the photosensitivity of a photosensitive body by using an electric charge generating layer formed by alternately laminating vacuum deposited films consisting of a phthalocyanine base pigment and vacuum deposited films consisting of an inorg. material. CONSTITUTION:The charge generating layer 3 of the separated-function type photosensitive body is formed by alternately laminating the vacuum deposited films 3a consisting of the phthalocyanine base pigment and the vacuum deposited films 3b consisting of the inorg. materials. The layer 3 is formed by, for example, the following method: Aluminum phthalocyanine powder is first put into a 1st boat 504 of a vacuum vessel 501 and ZnS powder is put into the 2nd boat 505. An Al substrate 503 is mounted to a substrate holding plate 502. The inside of the vessel 501 is then evacuated to a high vacuum and after the boats 504, 505 are heated up to a prescribed temp., shielding plates 508, 509 are alternately opened, by which the layer 3 deposited with the films 3a, 3b in multiple layers is obtd. on the substrate 503. An electric charge transfer layer is thereafter formed on the layer 3 by a plasma CVD method, etc.
