titleOfInvention Production of di(aryloxy)alkane
abstract PURPOSE: To feed an alkali with progress of reaction and carry out the reaction while regulating the amount of an aqueous phase, by limiting molar ratio of respective components in condensing a dihalogenated alkane with phenols in the presence of the alkali in an aqueous medium while heating. n CONSTITUTION: A dihalogenated alkane expressed by formula I (X and Y are halogen; A is lower alkylene) is condensed with a compound expressed by formula II (R 1 WR 5 are H, halogen, lower alkyl, aryl, nitro, etc.) in the presence of an alkali in an aqueous medium while heating to afford a compound expressed by formula III. In the process, the molar ratio of the compound expressed by formula I:compound expressed by formula II:alkali (expressed in terms of a nomovalent base) is 1:1.5W3.0:1.5W3.0 and the alkali is fed with progress of the reaction. The reaction is carried out by regulating the amount of the aqueous medium phase so as to provide the aqueous medium phase in an amount of <35wt% based on the amount of the oily phase. The titled substance useful as an additive or raw material for monomers is obtained in high quality and yield by this method. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
