titleOfInvention Preparation of naphthalocyanines
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare naphthalocyanines in a high yield and a high purity under mild conditions, by reacting 2,3-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (anhydride) with a metal (compound) and urea in the presence of a catalyst in a specified solvent. n CONSTITUTION: 2,3-Naphthalenedicarboxylic acid of formula I (where X is H, a halogen or an alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, nitro or carboxyl group; and m is 1W6) and/or 2,3-naphthalenedicarboxylic anhydride of formula II (where X and m are the same as above) is reacted with a metal and/or a compound thereof (e.g. anhydrous aluminum chloride) and urea in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. ammonium molybdate) in 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone as a solvent to give naphthalocyanines of formula III (where and m are the same as above; M is a metal, a metal oxide or a metal halide). The use of the above-mentioned catalyst makes it possible to produce the title compound in a high yield and a high purity under mild conditions, without requiring high temperatures unlike the conventional methods. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
