titleOfInvention Production of lower carboxylic acid ester
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain various lower carboxylic acid esters useful as intermediate raw materials for agricultural chemicals and drugs by simple facilities industrially and efficiently, by reacting a lower carboxylic acid with an alcohol by the use of anhydrous calcium chloride as a dehydrating agent and an acidic substance as a catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a lower carboxylic acid, an alcohol and inexpensive anhydrous calcium chloride as a dehydrating agent is blended with an acidic substance such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfonic acid, etc., and reaction is carried out at 30W80°C to give a lower carboxylic acid ester (e.g. α-halopropionic acid ester, β-halopropionic acid ester, etc.) shown by the formula COOP 1 (R 1 is H, 1W4C alkyl or haloalkyl; R 1 is 1W3C alkyl) in a short time and in high yield. The α-halopropionic acid ester is useful as a raw material for agricultural chemical of propionic acid type and the β-halopropionic acid is as a raw material for pridinol mesylate as muscle relaxant. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
