abstract | PURPOSE: To readily obtain the titled diol useful as a key compound for asymmetric reaction, etc., in high asymmetric selectivity, by hydrolyzing a lower fatty acid diester of racemic binaphthol with lipase. n CONSTITUTION: (A) A lower fatty acid diester of 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-diol, e.g. a compound expressed by formula I, etc., is hydrolyzed with (B) lipase to afford the aimed diol, e.g. a compound expressed by formula II, etc. The above- mentioned lower fatty acid is preferably a 2W6C lower fatty acid and lipase is preferably porcine pancreatic lipase.
