titleOfInvention Novel ring-opening polymer
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a ring-opening-polymerized polymer having an intrinsic viscosity in a specified range, being excellent in heat resistance, transparency, chemical resistance, dielectric property, rigidity, etc., and suited for optical lenses, optical fibers, etc., by ring-opening-polymerizing pentacyclopentadecene. n CONSTITUTION: Pentacyclopentadecene of formula I is subjected to ring-opening- polymerization in the presence of a polymerization catalyst (e.g., titanium tetrachloride or triethylaluminum). In this way, the purpose pentacyclopentadecene (or 1,4,5,8-dimethano-1,2,3,4,4a,4b,5,8,8a,9a-decahydro-9H-fluo-rene) ring-opening polymer mainly consisting of repeating units of formula II and having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.01W20dl/g (as measured in toluene at 25°C) can be obtained. By saturating the double bonds of this ring-opening polymer by hydrogenation, the thermal degradation resistance, light degradation resistance, etc. can be further improved. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
