| abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the titled ointment, containing thrombin as an active ingredient, capable of sticking to local parts of living bodies, exhibiting sustained local hemostatic effects, closely adhering particularly to mucosal tissues without readily decomposing and running off by intraoral saliva and giving biohazard action to the living bodies. n CONSTITUTION: A thrombin ointment obtained by containing thrombin as an active ingredient. In use, a formulation is prepared by using a method for blending part of a base such as ointment base, e.g. fat, lanolin, etc., emulsifying agent, e.g. sorbitan ester of a fatty acid, etc., preservative, e.g. p-hydroxybenzoic acid ester, etc., with the active ingredient, thoroughly triturating the blend, adding the residual base to further triturate the blend and forming the whole homogeneous blend, etc. The amount of the blended active ingredient is preferably about 100W1,000 units based on 1g ointment.
