titleOfInvention Preparation of plant specimen encapsulated in resin
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled specimen such as thin flower petal storable over a long period keeping the original state, by freeze-drying a just-collected plant in vacuum, putting the dried plant in a specific vessel, pouring a synthetic resin into the vessel and curing the resin. n CONSTITUTION: A just-collected plant such as water hyacinth is freeze-dried in vacuum at about 0W-40°C for 1W8hr under a vacuum of 1.5 atm. Separately, the inner surface of a vessel is coated e.g. by applying a mode-releasing agent such as styrene monomer to the surface to an extremely thin layer and drying the layer by letting stand for 5min. The dried plant is put into the vessel having treated inner surface and a synthetic resin such as styrene resin containing a curing agent is poured into the vessel and cured to obtain a resin-encapsulated plant specimen keeping the natural grown or blooming state. The present process is useful not only for the preparation of a natural specimen at a low cost but also for the production of ornamental goods such as art objects, ornaments, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
