titleOfInvention Production of styrene polymer
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a styrene polymer having both isotactic and syndiotactic structures, by polymerizing styrene or a styrene derivative in the presence of a specified catalyst containing titanium and a halogen. n CONSTITUTION: Styrene or a styrene derivative is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst based on a solid substance (a) containing at least titanium and a halogen and being insoluble in a hydrocarbon and a reaction product (b) of an alkylaluminum with water. Said solid substance of component (a) is a solid substance insoluble in hydrocarbon solvents such as aliphatic hydrocarbons, alicyclic hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons which are liquid at room temperature and elevated temperatures and the exemplified by solid titanium halide compounds such as TiCl 3 and TiBr 3 . As component (b), trimethylaluminum is particularly preferable. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1988,JPO&Japio
