titleOfInvention Metal-coated anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker
abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a novel metal-coated CaSO4 whisker having a coating of one or more metal of Au, Ag, Pd, Ni and Co in a given weight ratio, consisting of CaSO4 whisker having a specific length and aspect ratio as well as excellent conductivity and dispersion and free of surface roughness of the resin. CONSTITUTION:A CaSO4 whisker having 10-200mum length and 5-100 aspect ratio obtained by calcining CaSO4.2H2O at 200-800 deg.C is activated with Pd, etc. Then the activated CaSO4 whisker is added to a plating liquid consisting of salt(s) of above-mentioned metal(s), complexing agent, reducing agent and the other additives to deposit a metal coating on the CaSO4 whisker. When the metal coating is deposited, it is required that a ratio of the metal coating based on the total weight is 10-80wt%. The resultant metal-coated CaSO4 whisker is preferably used as an electrically conductive filler for providing electromagnetic sealing or antistatic effect.
