titleOfInvention Composite material
abstract PURPOSE: A composite material providing a cured material having improved mechanical strength, surface hardness, transparency and surface slipperiness, comprising a polymerizable vinyl monomer and a spherical inorganic oxide consisting of silica and an oxide of a metal of a specific group of the periodic table as main constituent components. n CONSTITUTION: Spherical particles of an oxide (e.g., titanium oxide, etc.,) of a metal of group IV of the periodic table are added to a solution of γ- methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane in a mixed solvent of water and ethanol, the solvent is refluxed at 80°C for 2hr and the solvent is removed, to give the spherical inorganic oxide subjected to surface treatment with the silane. Then, the oxide is blended with a polymerizable vinyl monomer (e.g., bisphenol A diglycidyl ether, etc.,) and sufficiently kneaded to give a pasty composite material consisting of the vinyl monomer and the spherical inorganic oxide consisting of silica and the oxide of a metal of group IV of the periodic table. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
