abstract NEW MATERIAL:A glycidyl compound bearing at least one of glycidyl sulfonamide group of formula I (R 1 is 1W10C-aliphatic hydrocarbon group, 6W30C- aromatic hydrocarbon group; R 2 is H, glycidyl, 1W10C-aliphatic hydrocarbon group, 6W30C-aromatic hydrocarbon group). n USE: A modifier for casting materials, adhesive, paint, repairing agent for civil enginerring and construction, matrix resin for CFRP, GFRP, lamination and other epoxy resin. n PREPARATION: The reaction between a compound of formula II (R 2 ' is one of groups in R 2 other than glycidyl) and epihalohydrin is effected in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst such as a quaternary ammonium or phosphonium salt, the product is allowed to react with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide to give a compound of formula I.
