titleOfInvention Production of surface-modified wholly aromatic polyamide
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer having improved surface characteristics and adhesivity to matrix resin, by converting the surface of a wholly aromatic polyamide molded article to an alkali metal salt in a specific mixed solvent and reacting the product with an epoxy compound. n CONSTITUTION: The objective surface-modified wholly aromatic polyamide can be produced by reacting (A) a molded article such as filament, film, powder, etc., of a wholly aromatic polyamide having the recurring unit of formula I (Ar 1 and Ar 2 are aromatic ring) and/or formula II (Ar 3 is aromatic ring) (e.g. poly-4,4'-diamino-benzanilide terephthalamide) with (B) an alkali metal hydride in (C) a mixed solvent consisting of 10W90vol% dimethyl sulfoxide and 90W10vol% ether solvent and reacting the reaction product with (D) a compound having epoxy group [e.g. 2-(2,3-epoxypropyl)phenyl glycidyl ether]. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
