abstract PURPOSE: To selectively obtain the titled compound used as such an intermediate for synthesis of 4-piperidine, alkaloids, etc. in high yield, by oxidizing 1,2,3,4- tetrahydropyridine compound available in a large amount utilizing electrolytic reaction, followed by dehydrohalogenation. n CONSTITUTION: A compound expressed by formula I (R 1 represents H, alkyl, methoxy or ethoxycarbonyl ; R 2 represents ethoxycarbonyl, benzyl or acetyl ; n is 1 or 2) is subjected to electrolytic oxidation in methanol using an ammonium halide or sodium halide as a supporting electrolyte to obtain a compound expressed by formula II (X is Cl, Br or I). Then the hydrogen-halide is eliminated from this compound to obtain a 2-methoxy-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine derivative expressed by formula III. n USE: A synthetic intermediate for medicines and agricultural chemicals. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
