titleOfInvention Aromatic polyamide-imide-ether
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a polytrimellitamide-imide of excellent processability without detriment to the inherent mechanical properties and heat resistance, by composing it so that the major part of the total repeating units may be specified structural units. n CONSTITUTION: An aromatic polyamide-imide-ether comprising at least 60mol%, based on the total repeating units, structural units of the formula (wherein the left and right sides of the formula in each pair of parentheses may be reversed). Said polyamide-imide-ether can be produced without causing gelation by directly polymerizing trimellitic anhydride with 3,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether in N-methylpyrrolidone. The polymer obtained in this way can be formed into a flexible film by baking at a temperature of about 250°C. Said polymer can be used in a wide variety of applications such as varnishes, adhesives, films, fibers, matrix resins for fiber-reinforced composites and resins for compression molding, extrusion molding and injection molding. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
