abstract PURPOSE: A horizontal reactor, having an inlet of reactant substances and an outlet of reacted substances and further a rotating shaft equipped with agitating blades and provided in parallel to the reactor and the vapor phase part divided with partition plates and capable of giving an elastomer polymer of constant quality. n CONSTITUTION: A molten aromatic polyester, etc., and a heated lactone are fed to a mixer 1 and mixed, and the resultant mixture is then introduced from an inlet 7 of reactant substances of a horizontally installed reactor 2 and subjected to addition polymerization by rotating at least one rotating shaft 9 equipped with agitating blades 8. In the process, a vapor phase part 11 of the upper part in the reactor 2 is separated into two or more parts in the vertical direction by partition plates 12 to prevent the discharge of the unreacted lactone without reaction through the vapor phase part 11 and carry out addition reaction. The resultant reaction product is then discharged from en outlet 10 of the reacted substances, and the unreacted monomer in the polymer is removed by a monomer removing machine 3 to afford the aimed elastic polyester. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
