titleOfInvention Novel epoxyalcohol derivative and production thereof
abstract NEW MATERIAL:An epoxyalcohol derivative expressed by the formula [(R) and (S) indicate the absolute steric configuration, and when either one is (R), the other is (S); R 1 is H or benzyl; R 2 is ethyl or vinyl). n EXAMPLE: (2R,3S)-1,2-epoxy-3-hydroxy-4-pentene. n USE: Useful as an intermediate for synthesizing aggregation pheromones acting on insects e.g. western pine beetle eating and damaging pines of the West in North America. n PREPARATION: Diphenylcarbinol is reacted with a peroxide, e.g. tert-butyl hydroperoxide, in the presence of a dialkyl L-tartrate or dialkyl D-tartrate and a lower alkoxide of titanium (IV) to afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
