titleOfInvention | Production of high-purity 6-nitro-3-chlorobenzoic acid |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound having high purity, by dissolving crude 6-nitro-3-chlorobenzoic acid in an alkaline aqueous solution, adding an acid to the solution to effect the fractional crystallization, discarding the crystals precipitated in the initial stage and containing a large amount of impurity, and further adding an acid to the solution. n CONSTITUTION: Crude 6-nitro-3-chlorobenzoic acid containing 2-nitro-3-chloro benzoic acid as main impurity and produced by nitrifying 3-chlorobenzoic acid is dissolved in an alkaline aqueous solution (preferably an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide etc.), and an acid (preferably sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, etc.) is added to the solution. The amount of the acid is preferably 1W3 equivalent based on the acidic impurity contained in the aqueous solution. The crystals containing a large amount of impurity and precipitated in the initial stage are discarded by fractional crystallization. The remaining solution is further added with an acid to obtain the titled compound in high purity. The total amount of the acid added in the above process is about 1.0W1.2 equivalent based on the alkali used in the reaction. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio |
