titleOfInvention Purification of 10,10-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-9-anthrone or derivative thereof
abstract PURPOSE: To purify the titled substance useful as a raw material of aromatic polyester having high heat-resistance, by extracting the crude reaction product of an anthraquinone compound and a phenolic compound with an alkali and adding an acid to effect the precipitation of the objective compound within a specific pH range. n CONSTITUTION: Anthraquinone or a substituted anthraquinone is made to react with phenol or a substituted phenol at a molar ratio of 1:(5W10) in an inert gas stream at 110W140°C for 3W20hr to obtain a mixture containing the titled substance (BHPA). The mixture is washed with hot water to remove excess phenolic compound and the BHPA is extracted with an aqueous solution of an alkali. The pH of the BHPA-containing alkaline solution is adjusted to 8.0W9.5 with an inorganic acid such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc., to effect the precipitation of BHPA. n EFFECT: Only one recrystallization step is sufficient to attain sufficient purity in contrast with conventional process necessitating several steps. The production cost can be reduced remarkably and the process can be simplified. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
