PURPOSE: To provide a remedy for hepatopathy, containing a specific sulfur- containing amino acid compound or its salt as an active component, free of side effects in contrast with hormone agent, effective without using a large amount of the drug in contrast with vitamins and free of the problem of overdose. n CONSTITUTION: The agent contains the sulfur-containing amino acid compound of formula (R is lower alkyl or alkenyl; A is thio, dithio or sulfinyl) or its salt. The sulfur-containing amino acid compound is preferably S-allylcysteine, S-allylcysteine sulfoxide, S-allylmercaptocysteine, S-methylcysteine, S-ethylcys teine or S-propylcysteine.
