titleOfInvention Liquid crystal element
abstract PURPOSE: To form the smectic phase of a uniform monodomain by providing an orientation controlling film contg. a specific compd. as an alcoholic component of a polyester polymer on an one side substrate of a pair of the substrates. n CONSTITUTION: The orientation controlling film contg. the compd. shown by the formula as the alcoholic component of the polyester polymer is provided on at least one of a pair of the substrates in the titled element having a cell structure enclosed the liquid crystal in between a pair of the substrates provided on electrodes thereon respectively. The polyester forming component of the polyester polymer comprises the compd. shown by the formula, preferably tris (2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate. The acid component of the polyester polymer comprises terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid or benzophenone dicarboxylic acid. The prescribed acids may be used as a mixture thereof. The compd. shown by the formula may be substd. <80 equivalent % the total number of the hydroxyl groups with a polyalcohol. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
