abstract PURPOSE:To provide a hair tonic containing an alpha-linolenic acid tocopherol ester, having excellent hair tonic effect and storable stably for a long period. CONSTITUTION:A hair tonic such as hair lotion, hair cream, etc., containing usually 0.001-10wt%, preferably 0.01-1wt% alpha-linolenic acid tocopherol ester based on the whole composition. The hair tonic exhibits remarkable effect to promote the growth of hair (hair-tonic effect) when applied to the skin of man or animal, is storable stably for a long period and has extremely high commercial value. The alpha-linolenic acid tocopherol ester can be produced by reacting alpha-linolenic acid (9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid) with tocopherol in the presence of a condensation agent such as N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide.
