abstract PURPOSE: To reduce electric power consumption of a compressor, etc., by measuring the amt. of the sulfur oxide passing the inside of a passage for feeding a waste gas to an absorption column and increasing or decreasing the amt. of the air to be supplied to an oxidation column according to the measured amt. n CONSTITUTION: The waste gas of which the amt. of the sulfur oxide is measured by a measuring instrument 9 is cleaned by a suspension of slaked lime (basic material) in the absorption column 7 and the sulfurous acid gas is separated away as calcium sulfite. The calcium sulfite is fed into the oxidation column 10 where the adequate amt. of the gaseous oxygen based on the amt. of the measured sulfur oxide is supplied from a compressor 13 under the control by a control device and the calcium sulfite is made harmless as calcium sulfate. The wasteful consumption of the electric power by the compressor is prevented by increasing or decreasing the supply rate of the air by using the control device (addition part 18, arithmetic part 19 and output part 21). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
