abstract PURPOSE: To detect in real time the tilt of a picture by obtaining the secondary moment equivalent to a single horizontal scan line for each horizontal scan period of a video signal and calculating the total number of lines over an effective vertical scan period to obtain the spindle angle in the next blanking period. n CONSTITUTION: The count number Nj of black picture elements is obtained by a picture element counter 10 for each horizontal scan line for the video signal binary-coded by a binarization circuit 9. While the horizontal and vertical addresses are allocated by the horizontal and vertical counters 13 and 22 respec tively. Then the total addition value ΣXi of horizontal coordinate addresses containing black picture elements is obtained by an adder 14 and a buffer 15. Then Xi 2 is obtained by a table conversion ROM 16 together with the total addition value ΣXi 2 of Xi 2 obtained by an adder 17 and a buffer 18. The count values Ni and the values ΣXi and Σxi 2 are fetched by a CPU 12 via an I/O port 11 for each horizontal scan. Then the total addition value is calculator over the vertical scan period from the correlative moment and the secondary moment related to the horizontal and vertical coordinate addresses.
