PURPOSE:To provide a gelling agent capable of forming an oily gel having high structural viscosity and excellent temperature stability, durability and water-repellency when added to a wide variety of oils, by treating a water- swelling clay mineral with a quaternary ammonium salt-type cationic surfactant and a composite lipid. CONSTITUTION:The objective gelling agent can be produced by treating (A) a water-swelling clay mineral [e.g. the colloidal hydrous aluminum silicate of formula I (X is Al, Fe, Mn or Cr; Y is Mg, Fe, Ni, Zn or Li; Z is K, Na or Ca), etc.] with (B) a quaternary ammonium salt-type cationic surfactant [e.g. the compound of formula II (R1 is 10-22C alkyl or benzyl; R2 is methyl or 10-22C alkyl; R3 and R4 are 1-3C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl; X is halogen or methyl sulfate residue), e.g. dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride] and (C) a composite lipid (e.g. lecithin). |
