titleOfInvention 4-substituted cyclohexyl crotyl ether derivative
abstract NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I [R is 1W9C straight-chain alkyl; cyclohexane ring has trans(equatorial-equatorial) configuration; crotyl group has trans configuration]. n EXAMPLE: The compound of formula V. n USE: A liquid crystal material having low viscosity at low temperature, giving a liquid crystal display cell having quick response at low temperature and useful as an electro-optical display material. n PREPARATION: The objective compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the compound of formula II with sodium hydride or metallic sodium in an aprotic organic solvent such as tetrahydrofuran and reacting the resultant compound of formula III with a crotyl halide such as crotyl chloride. Since the compound is a nematic liquid crystal compound having negative dielectric anisotropy, it can be used as a material for dynamic light-scattering display cell or field-effect display cell in a state of a mixture with other nematic liquid crystal compound. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
