titleOfInvention Production of optically active 2-substituted-4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentenone
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for agricultural chemicals, perfumes or medicines in high optical purity and yield, by rearranging an optically active 5-substituted-4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentenone while holding the steric configuration. n CONSTITUTION: An optically active 5-substituted-4-hydroxy-2-cyclopentenone expressed by formula II [R is formula II (X-Y is CH 2 -CH 2 or cis CH=CH; R' is alkyl)] is subjected to rearrangement reaction in the presence of a base or catalyst, e.g. tertiary amine or metal oxide, in a solvent, e.g. dichloromethane, etc., at -20W+130°C while holding the steric configuration to afford the aimed substance expressed by formula III. The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by asymmetrically hydrolyzing a dl-cyclopentenone ester expressed by formula IV (R 1 is acyloxyl, etc.) using esterase produced by a microorganism or derived from an animal or plant. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
