abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a novel macromonomer having ethylenic unsaturated group at terminal and containing hydrophilic group, by reacting a polymer having carboxyl group at terminal and containing hydrophilic group with an epoxy compound containing etylenic unsaturated group in the presence of a hydrophilic organic solvent. n CONSTITUTION: The objective macromonomer having ethylenic unsaturated group at terminal and containing hydrophilic group can be produced by reacting (A) a polymer having carboxyl group at terminal and containing hydrophilic group (preferably a polymer having an average molecular weight of 1,000W100,000 and produced by polymerizing a raw material composed mainly of an ethylenic unsaturated monomer containing hydroxyl group and/or methylol group in the presence of an initiator containing carboxy group) with (B) an epoxy compound containing etylenic unsaturated group (e.g. glycidyl acrylate) in the presence of (C) a hydrophilic organic solvent. n USE: A graft copolymer useful as a paint, adhesive, surfactant, etc., can be produced by copolymerizing the macromonomer with an ethylenic unsaturated monomer. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
