titleOfInvention Production of lactic acid
abstract PURPOSE: To produce lactic acid in high efficiency, without necessitating complicate purification process, by reacting vinyl chloride with CO and hydrogen, oxidizing resultant 2-chloropropionaldehyde with an oxygen-containing gas and hydrolyzing the reaction product. n CONSTITUTION: 2-Chloropropionaldehyde is produced by reacting vinyl chloride with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst containing a rhodium compound and a base (preferably a trivalent organic phosphorus compound or its oxide or a nitrogen-containing compound having a pKa of 3W11) preferably at 20W100°C and 30W150kg/cm 2 G pressure. The produced aldehyde is oxidized with an oxygen-containing gas at 50W90°C under oxygen partial pressure of 0.2W50kg/cm 2 in the presence of a compound of a metal selected preferably from Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Cu and Ce. The obtained 2- chloropropionic acid is hydrolyzed in the presence of an alkali to obtain the objective lactic acid. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
