abstract PURPOSE:A novel agent for nourishing and growing hair having safety and improved nourishing and growing effects on hair free from side effects, comprising piperitenone, carbone, etc., as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:An agent for nourishing and growing hair, containing at least one selected from piperitenone[=1,4(8)-paramenthadien-3-one], iso-piperitenone(=1,8-paramenthadien-3-one) and carvone(=5,8-paramenthadien-3-one) of monocyclic monoterpene ketone as an active ingredient. The above-mentioned piperitenone exists in a purified oil of Mentha pulegium 1. var. aeiantha of Labiatae, the iso-piperitenone exists in a purified oil of Mentha pulegium L. var. eriantha of Labiatae and in a purified oil of a variety of Mentha rotundifolia of Labiatae and the carvone exists in a purified oil of seed of Carum carvi L. of Umbelliferae, in a purified oil of seed of Anethum graveolens, etc., (d-form) and in a purified oil of Mentha virdis L. (l-form) of Labiatae and prepared by adding a solution of Na2SO3 to each purified solution, shaking on a warm bath, adding, dissolving, separating into an oil layer part and a water layer part, treating the water layer part with an aqueous solution of caustic soda, regenerating and separating.
