titleOfInvention Rocket motor
abstract PURPOSE: To make uniform the transmission density of thermal energy to the outer surface of propellant so that the thermal energy is uniformly transmitted to the initial burning surface of the propellant, by jetting combustion gas from an tubular nozzle which is disposed in the axis of a rocket motor and directed toward the bottom of a cavity. n CONSTITUTION: The rear of a propellant 11 charged in a spherical motor casing 10 is opened to form a cavity 14 composed of an axial hole 15 and radial slots 16 arranged around the axial hole 15. Further, a tubular nozzle 27 of an ignition motor 21 arranged in opposite to the bottom 17 of the cavity 14 is in a flared shape, the diameter of which increases forward from the rear thereof, jets combustion gas of a main charged propellant 25 toward the cavity bottom 17 at an ultrasonic speed. The combustion gas jetted from the nozzle 27 impinges upon the cavity bottom 17 along the axis hole 15 while its jet speed decreases to a subsonic speed, and is reversed successively before blowing into the slots 16. At this time the stream of gas may flow out from a nozzle throat without stagnation, and therefore, the density of stream lines may be made to be uniform so that the thermal energy may be transmitted uniformly to the entire initial burning surface of the propellant 11 substantially at the same time. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
