titleOfInvention Production of 1,4-cyclohexanedione
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for various syntheses readily and economically advantageously, by oxidizing 1,4- cyclohexanediol with an oxidizing agent under a liquid phase condition by the use of a specific catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: 1,4-Cyclohexanediol having 3W20wt% concentration is oxidized with an oxidizing agent in a solvent, preferably water-soluble solvent, etc., in the presence of a metallic ruthenium catalyst supported on a carrier such as active carbon, alumina, etc., at room temperature W 70°C at normal pressure for 0.5W4hr in a liquid phase to give the aimed compound. A periodate such as sodium metaperiodate, etc., perchlorate, hypochlorite, etc., are preferably used as the oxidizing agent. The catalyst, for example, is prepared by immersing a carrier in an aqueous solution of ruthenium trichloride, adsorbing the ruthenium trichloride on the carrier, drying the ruthenium trichloride supported on the carrier and reducing the ruthenium trichloride with a reducing agent such as H 2 , etc. The amount of the catalytic component supported on the carrier is preferably 0.5W20wt% Ru. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
