abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain a branched resin having excellent compatibility with various resins and giving good pigment dispersion, by reacting a specified polyepoxy compound with a carboxyl group-containing alkyd or polyester prepolymer and a specified carboxyl group-containing resin other than an acrylic resin. n CONSTITUTION: A polyepoxy compound of formula I (wherein R is an aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or heterocyclic hydrocarbon residue and n' is a real number of 2W6) is reacted with a carboxyl group-containing alkyd or polyester prepolymer of the formula: X-COOH (wherein X is an alkyd or polyester prepolymer chain of a weight-average MW of 500W50,000 and a glass transition temperature of -20W100°C) and a carboxyl group-containing resin of the formula: Y-COOH (wherein Y is a resin prepolymer chain other than that of an acrylic resin and may be X) other than an acrylic resin to obtain a branched resin of formula II (wherein R, X and Y are as defined above, n+m is a real number of 2W6) having a weight-average MW of 1,000W200,000 and a glass transition temperature of -20W100°C. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio |
