abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the titled filler having excellent reinforcing effect on various synthetic rubbers, particularly capable of greatly enhancing their moduli and tensile strengths, by coating treatment of the surface of calcium carbonate fine powder with an azide group-carrying organic compound. n CONSTITUTION: The objective filler can be obtained by adding, while stirring, (A) 0.1W10pts.wt. of a compound having azide group, reactive with calcium carbonate (pref. p-azidebenzoic acid carrying in the molecule carboxyl group), e.g. in the form of acetone solution to (B) 100pts.wt. of calcium carbonate fine powder with a specific surface area 1W150 (pref. 40W120)m 2 /g determined by the BET method followed by expelling the solvent (e.g. acetone) through, e.g. drying.
