titleOfInvention Optically active carboalkylated amino-alcohol
abstract NEW MATERIAL:An optically active carboalkylated amino-alcohol of formula IWformula IV (Ph is phenyl; R is H, 1W10C alkyl or 6W10C aryl; X is O or S: Z is H, 1W10C alkyl or metallic atom). n EXAMPLE: (1R,2S)-2-ethoxycarbonylmethylamino-1,2-diphenylethanol. n USE: Useful as a separation agent for the optical resolution of racemic compound. A separating agent for liquid chromatography can be produced by supporting the alcohol on a carrier such as silica gel using a silica coupling agent as a spacer. n PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting an optically active isomer of erythro-2-amino-1,2-diphenylethanol, e.g. (1S,2R) isomer of formula V with a carbomethylation agent such as ethyl bromoacetate, converting the ester group of the product to metallic salt and converting the salt either to (thio)carboxylic acid or to other metallic salt. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
