titleOfInvention | Halogen-containing pyridine liquid crystal compound and liquid crystal composition thereof |
abstract | NEW MATERIAL:A liquid crystal compound shown by formula I (X is F or Cl; R 1 and R 2 are 1W18C alkyl). n EXAMPLE: 2-(m-Fluoro-p-hexyloxyphenyl)-5-heptylpyridine. n USE: One component for a chiral smectic C(SC*)liquid crystal composition having improved response properties. A liquid crystal substance showing a smectic C phase (SC phase), having improved compatibility with other optically active liquid crystal compounds, exhibiting a chiral smectic C phase (SC* phase) in a wide temperature range by blending and useful as an optical switch element using ferroelectricity. n PREPARATION: An intermediate shown by formula VI is reacted with a compound shown by formula VII to form a compound shown by formula VIII, then reacted with HClO 4 to give a compound shown by formula IV. This compound is reacted with ammonium acetate to give a compound shown by formula X, which is finally reacted with a compound shown by the formula R 2 Br to give a compound shown by formula I. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio |
