titleOfInvention Production of polyvinyl acetal sponge
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled sponge having especially improved impact resilience, by forcedly releasing a gelatinous substance formed in the middle of acetalization reaction from a wall face, floating the substance in a released solution and further carrying out the reaction. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of PVA is treated with a pore-forming auxiliary (e.g. starch), an aldehyde (preferably formaldehyde) and an acid and acetalized under heating at 50W70°C. At a stage wherein a gelatinous substance having shape retention is obtained, the gelatinous substance is forcedly released from the side wall face and the bottom wall face of a reaction bath and further acetalized in a state wherein the gelatinous substance is floated in a released solution to give the aimed sponge. The gelatinous substance on the bottom wall face is preferably released after a fixed time (30minW1hr) from the release of that on the side wall. When impasted starch emulsion which is obtained by impasting an aqueous solution of starch suspension under heating, then cooling and allowing to stand to give impasted starch and stirring and grinding the impasted starch is used as the pore-forming auxiliary, fine sponge having uniform micropores is obtained. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
