titleOfInvention Production of styrene-coated vinyl chloride polymer latex
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the latex having a desired specific gravity, a desired uniform particle diameter and an excellent quality, by polymerizing a mixture of styrene with vinyl chloride polymer particles and water in the absence of any emulsifier in the presence of a water-soluble polymerization initiator. n CONSTITUTION: A mixture comprising 100pts.wt. water (a), 30pts.wt. vinyl chloride (b) and, optionally, 10wt%, based on component (b), monomer copolymerizable therewith and 10wt%, based on component (B), polyfunctional monomer is polymerized in the absence of any emulsifier in the presence of 0.05W0.5pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. component (b), water-soluble polymerization initiator (c), (e.g., potassium persulfate) to obtain a vinyl chloride polymer latex (A) having a desired uniform particle diameter in the range of 0.1W1.0μm. A mixture of 0.1W15pts.wt. component A, 100pts.wt. said water (B) and 3W600pts. wt. styrene (C), per 100pts.wt. component A is reacted by using 0.01W1pt.wt. component (c) per 100pts.wt. component C in the absence of an emulsifier. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1987,JPO&Japio
