abstract | PURPOSE: An anti-inflammatory agent, consisting of a specific indoleacetic acid derivative or salt thereof and having better anti-inflammatory action than that of conventional indoleacetic acid derivative based anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents with slight side effect on gastrointestinal tracts. n CONSTITUTION: An anti-inflammatory agent consisting essentially of an indoleacetic acid derivative expressed by the formula (R 1 is F or perfluoroalkyl and plural may be substituted at the phenyl ring) or a salt thereof. Specific examples include 1-(4-fluorobenzoyl)-5-methoxy-2-methyl-1H-indoleacetic acid, etc. The compound expressed by the formula is capable of exhibiting improved anti-inflammatory action on mammals with very low toxicity thereof. For example, the compound exhibits higher inhibitory action than that of indomethacin and the toxicity is about 1/3 of that of the indomethacin on the other hand.
