titleOfInvention Tester for optical fiber
abstract PURPOSE:To achieve an efficient test at different wavelengths, by employing a fiber Raman laser containing phosphorus pentoxide as light source. CONSTITUTION:This testor for optical fibers uses an optical fiber with phosphorus pentoxide added at a high concentration a Raman light generation optical fiber 11 of the fiber Raman laser. A primary Stokes light of about 1.5mum range is generated by admitting a light pulse of about 1.3mum range into the optical fiber 11 as exciting light. Then, an exciting light emitted from a light source 10 for excitation is incident on a wavelength selection filter 12 through the optical fiber 11 to select the exciting light or the Stokes' light to transmit and the light transmitted through the filter 12 is incident on an optical fiber 4 to be tested through an optical directional coupler 2 and an optical coupler 3. The light reflected or back scattered with the optical fiber 4 is made incident on a photo detector 5 through the couplers 3 and 2 and converted into an electrical signal to be outputted to an arithmetic processor 6, which performs an average processing of the electrical signal and after the processing, the electrical signal waveform is displayed 7.
