abstract PURPOSE: To improve a separation characteristic, by a method wherein ion exchange latex is dispersed in an inert solvent along with a base material and the stock monomer of a reactive binder is added to the resulting dispersion to introduce an ion exchange group into the binder under heating. n CONSTITUTION: Latex obtained by emulsion polymerization is treated with amine to prepare ion exchange latex. This latex is dispersed in an inert solvent along with a base material and, thereafter, the stock monomer of a reactive binder, a crosslinking agent and a polymerization initiator are added to the dispersion obtained and the resulting mixture is heated under stirring to evaporate the inert solvent. After the latex is adhered to the surface of the base material, an ion exchange group is introduced into the aforementioned binder to prepare an ion exchange material having the ion exchange latex bonded and fixed to the surface thereof.
